Biographical Information for Dr. George Crow
I am the first born of five children. I entered this world in 1948 in Austin, Texas, while my mother was working on her undergraduate degree and my father on his Ph.D. at the University of Texas. My father became a globetrotting professor, so we had the unique privilege of living in the American Southwest, Europe and Latin America before heading to Rock Hill, SC, where I spent my high school years. I later graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and spent five years flying helicopters with tours in Vietnam, Florida and the Panama Canal Zone.
I resigned active duty as a Captain in the USAF to attend Columbia Biblical Seminary (CIU) and graduated in 1979 with a Master of Divinity degree, but more importantly, with the wonderful woman to whom I have been married since 1976, Cathy Grayson of Birmingham, Alabama.
In 1979 I was called to begin what has now become Northeast Presbyterian Church where I continue to serve to this day. Being here almost thirty years has given me a high and holy task that very few ministers receive, namely, that of officiating at the marriages of some of the very children I had the privilege of baptizing as little children “only yesterday.” It doesn’t get any better than that!
I received a Doctor of Ministry degree in 1994 from Reformed Theological Seminary. I also have been very active in the Spring Valley Rotary Club for over twenty-five years and during the same time have served as a volunteer in a number of capacities for Richland County School District Two. Cathy is the creator and builder of The Lamppost, our church’s unique reading and friendship center.
We have two grown children: daughter Emily, an International MBA student at the University of South Carolina Moore School of Business; and son Daniel, a Ph.D. student in philosophy at the University of Wisconsin (Madison).
