“School’s out for summer…
out for summer,
out til fall . . . ”
Much needed-to-hear words these days from that great theologian Alice Cooper.
And you know what school OUT means, don’t you???? It means time IN to read for pleasure and relaxation and adventure, and your Lamppost is the (Word of the Week) QUINTESSENTIAL source for that kind of literary joy!
Many, many happenings to report, but here they are in a nutshell!
- FATHER’S DAY is THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 17! Like moms, dads should be celebrated more than just one day, but for the official day, I have a PRECIOUS book to share. It’s called The Better Tree Fort, and in your humble librarian’s opinion, it is a book that every male (regardless of age) should give to his father on Father’s Day! It’s that wonderful, and be sure to check it out on our BOOK OF THE WEEK FEATURED SHELF, right in front of the Grand Hall.
- Our BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND CHILDRENS’ NO-STRESS READING CLUB is underway, and registration is open for a bit longer, so if you have not registered your child(ren) ages 3 to 17, hop on board quickly! Simple and quick: just come to the Lamppost desk and fill out a registration form and leave in box; your children then read or listen to what they want from now through August 12 and write down their read titles on our book sheets (also found at the Lamppost desk). Easy as (a summer-y lemon) pie;
- Other seasonal favorites are SUGGESTED READING LISTS and we’ve got ‘em for EVERY AGE . . . infants to great-grandparents! They are also at the Lamppost desk;
- New fiction is on the way from, for adults, FRANCINE RIVERS, JEFF HIGH, and CHARLES MARTIN, among others; for kids, new picture and juvenile fiction is coming in for processing too! Keep checking the FEATURED BOOK SHELVES in front of the Grand Hall and in the Children’s Wardrobe;
- Our Adult Nonfiction shelves will be moving in the near future to make them more accessible to you; pardon our mess! Any books still on the shelves can still be checked out, just like always. Stay tuned for updates in future midweek emails.Things go at a slower pace in summertime, but as you just read, your Lamppost stays busy as ever! We serve your reading, listening, and viewing needs year round and delight in lighting up your world with reading to light your way to HIM . . . our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Stop by this Sunday and “check us out!”
