“I cannot live without books.”
~Thomas Jefferson~

Your librarian was reminded of this little quote gem on her (Word of the Week) FORAY into our nation’s capital a couple of weeks ago.

My first stop?

Why, the Library of Congress of course, home to Thomas Jefferson’s library as well as over 164 MILLION books on approximately 838 MILES of bookshelves. It is the LARGEST LIBRARY IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And while our Lamppost may not boast numbers like that, we have some pretty impressive numbers too. Take, for example, our CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING CLUB members. Last year (as book tally sheets have just come in for this year and have not been counted) our Lamppost kids read over A QUARTER OF A MILLION PAGES in just two and a half months! WOW! Take that, Library of Congress!

To that end, it’s almost time to celebrate our younger readers and we’ll do so in grand style on SUNDAY, AUGUST 27th at 3:00 in the Grand Hall. So, to my Reading Club members and their families, we look forward to seeing you on the 27th; we’ll eat ice cream with all the toppings, give out some gifts, hear from some of our readers, and draw for our GRAND PRIZES to qualified readers in every age division.

Who will take home a gift card? Who will take home the KINDLE? We’ll know on the 27th!

To the rest of our congregation, you’ll find an eclectic collection of fiction and nonfiction adorning our shelves. And don’t forget about the suggested reading lists on the Lamppost desk; you’re sure to find something to tickle your reading fancy!

We are the Lamppost… we light up your world with reading to light your way to HIM… King Jesus! Come “check us out” this week!
